“I have known Mark for three years and recruited him to edit Country Walking, the UK’s best-selling walking magazine in January 2013. It was a key challenge which required Mark to develop a new editorial vision for the title and implement it within a short time frame. During this period he showed immense drive and capacity for work. His ability to confidently inspire and manage a team ensured the new vision was implemented across all key measurements set. His passion for the title, openness to new ideas and overall creativity allowed the title to continue to develop under his Editorship. Mark also had the ability to confidently communicate and engage at all levels both internally and externally and share his new editorial plans and vision. Overall I would strongly recommend Mark.”

“I can confirm that I have known Mark Sutcliffe for over ten years. At the beginning of that period, I was his line manager at Warners Group Publications (a large print and publishing company in the Midlands). During that time, he successfully oversaw large teams and budgets on my behalf. Later, Mark moved onto a freelance career, during which time I continued to employ his services, specifically, but not solely on two big projects, as I was confident in his ability to both edit and formulate good publishing strategies and implement them. Lakeland Walker was a bi-monthly title that Warners owned and which Mark edited for us. This role was also a commercial one that required a strong understanding of the commercial realities of a niche title and the role a modern editor plays in that process. It was delivered on time, on budget and to a high standard. Go Camping was a large annual publication, which Mark oversaw all aspects of. The concept was devised in-house, but we outsourced the whole project to him – including planning, production and liaison with all commercial and editorial partners. It was delivered on time, on budget and to a high standard.”

“We have used Mark extensively over many years on a number of projects working with the Volkswagen Group and his ability to bring a creative eye to complex tasks always produced excellent results that went beyond the brief. His editorial skills, knowledge and attention to detail are second to none and he works hard to understand the subject and his audience. Mark comes highly recommended by Haymarket Network.”

“I have commissioned Mark for a number of projects and have been consistently impressed with both the quality of his work and his ability to adapt his tone and style for a variety of different audiences. In addition to writing a wide-range of pieces on complex subjects, which he turned into accessible, easily-digested copy, Mark has also carried out demanding market analysis projects by engaging with market stakeholders to draw out underlying trends and then distilling those findings into readable and interesting reports which helped with the strategic thinking of our customers. Mark has also provided proactive support for developing projects further with in-depth plans and proposals, all supported by a genuine enthusiasm for delivering quality work, backed by reliable delivery and an ability to meet deadlines.”

“Mark is a skilled media professional brimming with passion, conviction, creativity and practicality. I worked with Mark on Lakeland Walker magazine (I was publisher, he was the editor) and it was a most enjoyable and productive experience. We invested time, money and energy to refresh and relaunch the magazine and then successfully sold it on to a bigger publisher, where it continues to prosper to this day. Mark’s people skills are second to none. He will be a great ambassador for whatever he is engaged with.”
